In 1972, Dr. Ben Schuman founded a private mental health facility in East Oakland. Dr. James Liles joined the Clinic Six years later, and it became the Schuman-Liles Clinic. In 1989,the Clinic then changed its organizational structure to become a non-profit corporation, in order to fulfill its mission. In response to increasing demand for services in the tri-city area of Alameda County, a satellite clinic opened in Fremont in 1993. Schuman-Liles Clinic serves an active caseload of more than 3900 persons with mental illnesses.
For almost thirty years the Schuman-Liles Clinic has provided quality outpatient psychiatric programs to serve Alameda County’s demand for mental health care. We will continue to provide these services, but we cannot do it alone. We need the support of individuals and organizations that are willing to help the clinic meet its mission.
