Vision:

A Tobacco-Free Schuman-Liles Clinic

Mission:

Schuman-Liles Clinic provides Medication Evaluation, management and monitoring for adults. The Clinic is dedicated to providing quality services in a healthy, comfortable and productive drug-free environment.

The United States Surgeon General, in his 1986 report on Involuntary Smoking, concluded:

  • Involuntary Smoking is a cause of disease, including lung cancer, in healthy nonsmokers.
  • The simple separation of smokers and nonsmokers within the same air space may reduce, but does not eliminate, the exposure of nonsmokers to environmental tobacco smoke.

In 1993, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified environmental tobacco smoke as a Group a carcinogen, that is, a substance known to cause cancer in humans. The EPA recognizes no safe level of exposure for Group A carcinogens.

IN LIGHT OF THESE FINDINGS, SCHUMAN-LILES CLINIC SHALL BE ENTIRELY SMOKE-FREE EFFECTIVE January 1, 2002.

Smoking will be strictly prohibited within all Schuman-Liles Clinic facilities including offices, hallways, waiting rooms, restrooms, staff lounge, elevators*, meeting rooms and all community work are as 24 hours a day/7 days a week. This policy applies to all employees, patients, consultants, contractors, and visitors. Smoking shall only occur at a reasonable distance (20 feet or more) outside any enclosed area where smoking is prohibited to insure that environmental tobacco smoke does not enter the area through entrances, windows, ventilation systems or any other means.
